Research to Improve Care in Richmond

Donor funding has fuelled a comprehensive effort to help grow the research program in Richmond. Working in partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, Richmond Hospital Foundation is enabling the research conducted by our physicians, nurses and other health care professionals to flourish and improve care in Richmond. Research projects include looking at ways to boost prevention of Adverse Drug Events through better understanding of causes and communication as well as using calming “robot” animals to reduce confusion, aggression and anxiety in elderly hospital patients with dementia.

2025

ED Mental Health Campaign

Our community rallied together to raise $1.38 million towards a dedicated space within the Emergency Department where individuals with mental health symptoms can receive patient-centred care and assessment. The new space will open late summer and feature reduced external stimuli via softer lighting, soundproof walls and more privacy in addition to enhanced sightlines for nursing staff to respond effectively to patient needs.

Medical Imaging Centre Campaign

Medical imaging plays a significant role in everyone's health and lives. Richmond Hospital Foundation is raising $25 million to fund excellence and innovative technologies in the expanded, future Medical Imaging Centre which will include an increased number of new CT scanners, MRI machines, mammography machines, SPECT machines, X-Ray machines, and interventional radiology machines.

With donations from our donors, we will be able to increase not only the specialized equipment and the physical space, but also ensure Richmond Hospital is responding to the growing needs of the community with timely, accurate, and the appropriate treatment close to home. Help ensure the medical imaging team at Richmond Hospital have the best tools to make a positive difference in lives of individuals and families.

3D Mammography

With the generous support of donors, Richmond Hospital is now offering 3D mammograms to help with early detection of breast cancer. Three-dimensional images of the breast tissue vastly enhance the ability to identify even the most subtle abnormalities. This transformative technology will allow our radiologists to detect breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages, and help decrease wait times for patients and the need for follow up scans.
