3D Mammography

With the generous support of donors, Richmond Hospital is now offering 3D mammograms to help with early detection of breast cancer. Three-dimensional images of the breast tissue vastly enhance the ability to identify even the most subtle abnormalities. This transformative technology will allow our radiologists to detect breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages, and help decrease wait times for patients and the need for follow up scans.

New MRI Machine

Because of our generous donors, Richmond Hospital Foundation replaced a 15-year-old MRI at Richmond Hospital with a new model featuring enhanced image quality, faster scan times, and multiple language options. Radiologists will now be able to see more patients daily, have access to better diagnostics, and ensure a more efficient and comfortable patient experience.

Emergency Department Code Blue Equipment

When a patient suffers a cardiac arrest, the words “Code Blue” are broadcast throughout the hospital. A dedicated Code Blue team rushes to the patient’s location bringing medicine and medical equipment to perform resuscitation.

Donors helped equip Richmond Hospital Emergency Department’s Code Blue team with critical, lifesaving equipment including standardized crash cart upgrades and a new chest compression system. These enhanced tools will help the highly trained Code Blue team respond to life-threatening conditions at a moment’s notice.

Our community of donors joined forces to help raise an astounding $1.3 million to supply Richmond Hospital with game-changing diagnostic and surgical equipment that will improve access to diagnostic procedures for cardiac patients, elevate the treatment experience for those with breast cancer, and shorten the recovery time for patients who require hip surgeries, and more.

Permanent Richmond Foundry Location

Because of our donors, Richmond Hospital Foundation contributed $1.5 million to establish Foundry Richmond, a permanent new centre that delivers health care focused on youth. Located at 5811 Cooney Road in Richmond, Foundry Richmond makes it easy for young people to find youth-friendly, welcoming and appropriate services free of charge, including programs for mental health and substance use, physical and sexual health care, peer support, and social services.

Richmond Family Access and Support Team (R-FAST) Vehicle

Thanks to the leadership and generosity of the Richmond Firefighters Association (IAFF Local 1286), the Richmond Family Access and Support Team now have access to a dedicated vehicle allowing them to travel to where youth live within the community to provide on-the-ground assessment and treatment. By providing alternative care and support, R-FAST increases the chances for improved health outcomes for vulnerable youth under the age of 19 who may be living with unresolved mental health issues.

Trio of Life Campaign

Thanks to our community of donors, General Internal Medicine physicians at Richmond Hospital and the experts in Cardiology, Pulmonary medicine and Neurology will be receiving new diagnostic equipment vital in ensuring that disease progression is discovered in a timely manner and accurately accessed. Each of these specialists work with patients to discover, diagnose and monitor symptoms and conditions related to the heart, lungs, and the body’s nervous system – the Trio of Life.

The new equipment will help improve a patient’s journey from monitoring symptoms to diagnosis by providing our expert teams with a suite of specialized equipment that will interpret the complexities of each patient’s symptoms. Physicians will have advanced tools and technologies to help develop an optimum treatment plan that will ultimately improve health in the community.

New In-Patient Acute Mental Health Unit

Donor support has enabled the redesign of the new In-Patient Acute Mental Health Unit in Richmond Hospital. Opened in late November, the newly transformed space allows the care team to fully incorporate the Person and Family Centred Care model, increasing respect, dignity, compassion, and privacy for patients and families. Thanks to donors, a new multifunctional activity room and private consultation spaces have been created, together with a family dining area and kitchen, with new furniture, lighting and décor that promotes a soothing and therapeutic environment.

$50 Million Dollars Raised for New Yurkovich Family Pavilion

Completion of the $50 million ACT NOW Campaign was made possible by many joyful donors coming together. The new tower will be named the Yurkovich Family Pavilion and it will increase the capacity of care for Richmond’s growing population, helping to ensure the best in care is close to home. The Yurkovich Family Pavilion will be home to a new surgical centre, medical imaging centre, emergency department, and more inpatient beds.

New Surgical Equipment

With the help of generous donors, Richmond Hospital Foundation has funded new technologies and a refresh of urgently needed surgical equipment including a portable and minimally invasive surgical system, wireless connectivity and 4K resolution screens to improve surgical visualization along with a mini C-Arm, microtome tissue slicers, bipolar cautery technology, and cystoscopes. The acquisition of new, state-of-the-art equipment will aid with faster recovery times, shorter hospital stays, and better outcomes.

COVID-19 Response Fund

Thanks to the support of the community, Richmond Hospital Foundation received more than one million dollars to fund much-needed equipment and COVID-19 research. Richmond Hospital purchased new CPR chest compression equipment, respiratory glidescope blades, portable gas machines and ventilators, additional ICU beds and care spaces, patient vital signs monitors and oxygen concentrators. Your generosity has allowed our medical teams to quickly scale up to create the needed capacity for anticipated volumes now for any future waves.

Community Health Access Centre

Opened in March 2020, the new Community Health Access Centre on 7671 Alderbridge Way provides multiple specialized services consolidated into a single location for adults, including older adults, with chronic diseases. Donor investments have helped fund renovations to create space for increased clinic rooms and a welcoming reception for patients and families. With the addition of expanded data capabilities for home health staff and Telehealth capabilities and infrastructure, Richmond is “future-ready” for better, faster, and more convenient access to the health care that patients need.

Cardiac Echo Ultrasound to Improve Medical Imaging

An echocardiogram also known as a cardiac echo is one of the most vital and widely used tests in cardiology to monitor heart health. Ultrasound technology is used to create an image that shows the size, shape and function of the heart pump and the heart valves. Last year, nearly 5,000 cardiac echo scans were performed for patients in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and the wards of Richmond Hospital, as well as outpatients requiring scans. Donors helped fund a brand new state-of-the-art unit to help our cardiologists diagnose problems, monitor any potential changes in the heart over time and determine what further steps or tests may be required.

Improving Health Care for Seniors

Donor funding has helped make health care for Richmond’s elderly patients more compassionate and caring by funding vital music therapy at both our long-term care homes and in hospital, providing meaningful activity for seniors who may have cognitive impairment or palliative care needs. In Richmond Hospital, donor funding has helped to improve care on our Acute Care for the Elderly unit by providing a warm, welcoming, safe and stimulating environment for older adults as they recover .

Equipment for Colon Cancer Screening

Donor leadership has helped fund much-needed equipment to enable a doubling of capacity required for greater colon cancer screening at Richmond Hospital. With early screening, colonoscopes help gastroenterologists to view the colon and remove smaller pre-cancerous polyps, if present, on the spot, sparing patients from painful, more invasive surgery, and resulting in faster recovery times.
